Course Planning As A Collaborative Process
Many students I work with don't seem to mind if I select their courses each term. Others have specific course preferences and would rather plan out their courses on their own.
Everyone has different needs, so it's important that I hear from you. Let me know what you want. Do you want to create a course plan on your own and then share it with me? Or would you rather I create a course plan for you?
I believe course planning should be a collaborative process. If you want to select your own courses, that's wonderful! I want you to have that autonomy and be able to complete the courses you want, in the order you want. After all, it is your academic journey.
At the same time, I am here to guide you in selecting the courses that will help you attain your educational and career goals and will keep you motivated throughout your program. I am always available to provide direction or course recommendations.
Course planning is one of the most important things you will do during your time at SNHU. It's an important process, because it can help you stay motivated, align your coursework with your career goals, and help you avoid taking courses that may not be the best fit for your interests.

Before scheduling a call, review your Academic Evaluation to see what degree requirements you need to complete.
As part of your degree program, you will be required to complete general education requirements. At SNHU, our general education curriculum is called The Commons. For some of your general education requirements, you will not have course options. For instance, all students must complete ENG-130 - Foundation of Written Communication, ENG-190 - Research and Persuasion, and a Statistics course (NOTE: Depending on your program, you may be required to complete MAT-240 - Applied Statistics specifically). However, for most general education requirements, you do have options.
If you would like to select your general education courses, review your Academic Evaluation and see what general education requirements you need to complete. On your Academic Evaluation, to view your course options for each general education requirement (e.g., Ethical Thought & Equity, Creative and Critical Expression), click on the attribute/label code attached to each course requirement. The attributes you may see are the following:

EETH = Ethical Thought & Equity

ECCE = Creative and Critical Expression

EHPS = Historical Perspectives
-
ESPE = Roles of Social, Political, Psychological, and Economic Contexts

CSST or ENV = Sustainability-related requirements

As you can see from the screenshot, this student still needs to complete an Ethical Thought & Equity requirement. If you were to click on the EETH attribute, you would see the course options for this requirement, which include PHL-210 - Introduction to Philosophy, PHL-212 - Introduction to Ethics, PHL-218 - Ethics in Global Society, and PHL-260 - Ethical Problem Solving. You can find course descriptions for courses of interest in the Academic Catalog.
After you have reviewed your general education and major course requirements, and if applicable, your concentration/minor course requirements, see how many free electives you need to complete and make a list of the courses you would like to take as electives. Please refer to the page Selecting Your Free Electives.
If you have already compiled a list of courses you would like to complete as part of your program, please email it to me at advising@snhu.edu. If you have gone as far as developing a course plan that includes the terms you would like to complete your desired courses, also email it to me. I will use your course list or course plan when registering you for courses.
